# Warum ist es sinnvoll, über ein elektronisches Kartenanzeigesystem an Bord von Fahrzeugen zu verfüge

Elektronische Kartenanzeigesysteme sind eine Kombination aus Hard- und Software zur Anzeige von elektronischen Binnenschifffahrtskarten.

Elektronische Kartenanzeigesysteme sind ein System zur Anzeige von elektronischen Karten für die Binnenschifffahrt. Ihr Zweck ist es, zur Sicherheit und Effizienz der Binnenschifffahrt und damit auch zum Schutz der Umwelt beizutragen.

Inland AIS Geräte ermöglichen die Kommunikation von Informationen von Schiff zu Schiff sowie von Schiff zu Land und in umgekehrter Richtung. Mit Hilfe von landseitigen AIS-Repeater-Stationen können sogar Informationen von Schiffen außerhalb der Sichtweite empfangen werden. Das ist insbesondere in bergigen Gebieten von Bedeutung.

Nur ein spezielles elektronisches Kartenanzeigesystem mit einem Bildschirm, der groß genug ist, um alle relevanten Details anzuzeigen, nutzt das Potenzial eines Inland AIS Geräts voll aus.

Darüber hinaus kann ein ECDIS-Gerät im Informationsmodus zusätzliche Funktionen bieten und z.B. Alarme von angeschlossenen Geräten wie Inland AIS anzeigen.
